A Brief History

It all started back in April 2008 when three friends decided that they would try to start their own amateur football team.  They all played for teams at the time but wanted to pursue a new start, a new challenge and this is where Alba Athletic Football Club started.  The hard work of funding the club and sourcing a squad then started in earnest!

Fundraising events took place along with a trial match and most importantly the club's first management team were put together.

Before Alba Athletic Football Club came about many other names had been considered, Edinburgh Athletic, Edinburgh Thistle, Edinburgh Star and AEGON (where a number of the players were employed) but to name a few!

Various parks and training venues were looked into including Peffermill Playing Fields, Heriot Watt University, the Royal High School and Drumbrae Leisure Centre.  In the end we opted to play out home matches at Kirkliston Leisure Centre and have a weekly let on training facilities at Saughton Sports Centre on their 3G pitch.

In our debut season as a football club in the 2008/2009 season the club took great strides to cementing themselves as an up and coming amatuer team.  We reached our league cup final (unfortunately losing 2-0 to Tollcross Thistle) and also gained promotion.

Season 2009/2010 saw Alba quickly establish themselves in the Lothian West division and it wasnt long until it was clear that we were capable of mounting a serious promotion challenge despite being newcomers to the division. Indeed in the 6 matches versus the three teams who finished above us in the league we won 3 and drew 3. Inconsistency elsewhere ultimately cost us back to back promotions as we finished 4th in a division where the top 3 were promoted. We also enjoyed good runs in several cup competitions including the prestigous East of Scotland Cup.

Aims for Season 10/11

As we look ahead to our 3rd season in the Lothian & Edinburgh Amateur FA we have set ourselves the following goals which we hope to be acheivable:

1.  To gain promotion to Premier 2
2.  To win a cup
3.  To progress each playing member of the squad
4.  To make sure all club members enjoy themselves
